TownDirectory lists UK businesses town by town. It is free to search and free to be listed in.

Britain used to be well served by local directories and most of them have now closed or decayed into paid placement. What is left tends to charge businesses to appear at all, which quietly turns a directory into an advertising board: the listings you see are the ones that paid, not the ones that are there.

This works the other way round. Listings are compiled from public registers, so a business appears whether or not it has ever heard of us, and ranking is never for sale. Claiming a listing is free and adds detail; it does not buy position.
